Drag a Magnet from your bag onto the Pokémon. All of its equipped items return to the bag, and the Magnet is spent. During combat, use it on a benched Pokémon or wait until planning for a Pokémon that is fighting.
You do not have to sell a Pokémon just to move its equipment. The Magnet is the removal tool described in the current game Guide. Its all-items behavior matters when you only want to replace one part of a loadout.
Move the equipment without selling the holder
- Find a Magnet in the bag. It is a tool rather than a normal equippable item.
- Check whether the target is currently fighting. If it is, wait for planning.
- Drag the Magnet onto that Pokémon.
- Check that the Pokémon’s items are back in the bag.
- Re-equip the items you want to keep there, or give them to another teammate.
The tool removes the whole loadout. It does not ask you to select one item. If you wanted to move only one, you still need to put the others back afterward. This sequence follows the developer’s instructions; it is not a recording of an in-game test.
When is the Magnet consumed?
The Guide says using a Magnet on a Pokémon with equipment consumes it. Using it on an empty Pokémon does not. The Magnet also occupies space in your bag, so identify the tool itself before trying to combine it with a component.
For example, if a Pokémon holds two completed items, one Magnet returns both to the bag. Decide where both will go before using the tool. An item move can help you correct a holder without also changing the team’s species or star level.
The Guide describes free Magnets during runs and mode-specific sources, including later Campaign gyms and Tower bosses. Check the current mode’s Items help for its schedule. A statement that a mode supplies more Magnets does not guarantee that one is available in your bag right now.
Why does it fail during a fight?
The current Guide allows equipping, combining and Magnet use on the bench during combat, but not on the Pokémon fighting. If the target is on the battlefield, leave its equipment alone until planning returns.
Check the target’s location before treating this as a broken item. A bench Pokémon and a fighting Pokémon have different restrictions even though both are visible. Moving your finger or mouse to another spot does not remove the combat restriction.
If you are having trouble grabbing the tool or Pokémon on a phone, see the touch-control instructions. Keep the rule about combat separate from a dragging problem.
Check recipes before putting items back
Two components on one Pokémon combine automatically. If you return several components to the bag and then put two on a new holder, you may create a completed item. Read the recipe table in the Guide’s Items tab before the second drop.
Match the destination’s ability scaling to the equipment. A Physical, Special or Mixed ability can use different stats. Also check Eevee’s evolution preview before moving equipment onto copies you intend to merge; their items influence its two-star branch.
For copy merges and equipment rules together, return to the evolution and items overview. The useful success check here is simple: the original Pokémon is still yours and its former gear is visible in the bag or on the intended new holder.
Quick questions
Does the Magnet remove one item or all items?
All equipped items on the target return to the bag.
Can I remove items from a fighting Pokémon?
Wait for planning. During combat, the Guide permits item operations on the bench, not on fighters.
Is a Magnet wasted on an empty Pokémon?
No. The Guide says it is not consumed if the target holds no equipment.
