Choose Kanto, Safari Zone or Night in Lavender to start. Team Rocket unlocks after you complete another adventure. Each adventure has Normal, Veteran and Legend difficulties, unlocked in order; completing any first adventure also unlocks the Battle Tower.
Adventures are story runs with their own starters, encounters and choices. Pick a route for the experience you want, then use its difficulty panel to decide how hard the next run should be.
Compare the four adventures
| Adventure | What you do | Entry or difficulty note |
|---|---|---|
| Kanto | Follow the story through eight Gyms, the Elite Four and the Champion. | The former Campaign, revised in version 33. |
| Safari Zone | Rescue Pokémon from poachers using Safari Balls and face Koga. | Described as the easy adventure. |
| Night in Lavender | Climb Pokémon Tower and investigate the top. | Described as medium difficulty. |
| Team Rocket | Enter the hideout, visit the Game Corner and pursue Giovanni to Silph. | Hard; complete another adventure first. |
These route labels are separate from the Normal, Veteran and Legend setting. Safari Zone on Legend is not the same choice as Safari Zone on Normal. The PvP Safari reward round is also a different system from this story adventure.
A practical route to your first completion
For an accessible starting route, consider Safari Zone on Normal: the developer describes Safari as the easy adventure. Choose Kanto instead if your goal is the familiar Gym journey. This is a recommendation from the route descriptions, not a measured easiest-team claim.
Before starting, check the selected adventure and difficulty. During the run, build around copies you can merge, field enough Pokémon for your trainer level and match equipment to the active ability. The beginner guide explains this loop, and the item recipe guide helps with equipment choices.
A PvP composition is not automatically an adventure solution. Encounters, starters and choices differ, so read the next opponent and avoid spending the entire run waiting for a ranked endgame team.
How Normal, Veteran and Legend unlock
Finish Normal to unlock Veteran for that adventure, then finish Veteran to unlock Legend. Version 33 renamed the older Trainer difficulty to Veteran while preserving runs and records. Each difficulty makes opponents stronger rather than changing the adventure into a different route.
The current adventure panel explains its modifiers. Read those details before advancing: tougher opponents can change whether your team needs more damage, a stronger frontline or different equipment. Version 34 specifically strengthens late Legend bosses; Marowak Ghost has less shield but hits harder. An older clear is therefore not proof that the same setup still works unchanged.
Version 35 labels the difficulties with Poké Ball (Normal), Great Ball (Veteran) and Ultra Ball (Legend) icons. The icon identifies difficulty; it is not a separate adventure. Lavender and Team Rocket are a little easier on Normal in this patch.
What does finishing an adventure unlock?
A first completion of any adventure unlocks the Battle Tower. Team Rocket also requires completing another adventure; you do not have to finish Kanto specifically to satisfy that condition. Existing Tower access is retained.
The Battle Tower guide continues from that unlock with the 200-floor route, blessings, weekly reset and pending leaderboard verification. Adventure difficulties still unlock in their own sequence, so opening the Tower does not instantly open Legend everywhere.
Read the result and keep your progress
Version 33 adds an adventure score based on progress, remaining HP, losses and feats, with eight feats per adventure. Version 34 adds a leaderboard for each adventure and server checks before results count. Version 34.1 also includes the best Pokémon from your bench on the final screen.
In Adventures and the Tower, version 33 removes losing merely because the fight runs out of time: combat continues and speeds up if it drags. PvP timing does not change under that rule.
Before switching devices, use the save-transfer checklist. A new browser does not automatically contain the local progress that unlocked a route or difficulty.
Traveler Stars, challenges and titles
Version 35 adds Traveler Stars: 1, 2 and 3 per adventure depending on the difficulty you beat, together with challenges and the Traveler, Explorer and Globetrotter titles. Read the challenge panel for each title’s exact requirement; the patch notes do not give a complete title-threshold table.
Doduo can now be found in Team Rocket. A locked shop no longer refreshes between consecutive events. Campaign, Tower and Adventures also allow selling items from the bag. Those changes are separate from the older adventure score and its feats.
Quick questions
Do I have to complete Kanto before playing Team Rocket?
No. The published requirement is to complete another adventure, not Kanto specifically.
Does completing one Normal adventure unlock Legend?
No. Difficulty unlocks are sequential for each adventure: complete Normal for Veteran, then Veteran for Legend.
Is Safari Zone the PvP item-picking round?
The Safari Zone adventure is a story route. PvP also has a Safari reward round, which is a separate feature.
What do the balls beside adventure difficulty mean?
In version 35, Poké Ball means Normal, Great Ball means Veteran and Ultra Ball means Legend. Traveler Stars record difficulty accomplishments separately.
