Before the next fight, check your field limit, the upgrade a purchase completes, active traits, item holder and next XP cost. In PvP, read the Seal offer promptly: v35 gives 15 seconds and one reroll per pick.
Use this checklist when you know the basic controls and need to choose your next action. It is practical advice drawn from documented rules, not a claim of a winning playthrough. For the opening tutorial, start with the beginner guide.
1. Name the upgrade before buying
Decide whether the shop purchase completes a merge, replaces a weak fielded unit or activates a trait. A Pokémon left on the bench does not add a field slot or contribute to active synergy. If the purchase only makes sense after several unlikely future copies, compare the upgrade already available.
With two eligible identical copies, the third can complete a merge. A unit currently fighting waits until planning to merge. Use the full-bench checklist when a purchase is blocked rather than selling a useful reserve immediately.
2. Recount the trait that will actually activate
Count distinct eligible Pokémon on the field and read the highlighted threshold. Familiar species typing alone is not enough: a faded, crossed-out Flying icon does not contribute to Flying synergy.
In v35, Mew takes the team’s main trait at the start of each fight, except Ghost and Dragon. Water now uses 3/6/8 breakpoints. Read the combat trait display instead of assuming an old Psychic or Water count still applies.
3. Budget the next level before refreshing
Buying XP can create another field slot; refreshing searches for copies. Compare the exact outcomes before spending. The v35 high-level requirements are 24 XP from 6→7, 40 from 7→8 and 66 from 8→9. These are XP requirements, not quoted gold costs.
If you need a level to field the unit you plan to buy, include that requirement in the plan. If you need a merge instead, check whether the copies are available. No fixed gold target or round-by-round level schedule is established by this checklist.
4. Read the ability before combining items
Choose the holder, inspect its Physical, Special or Mixed ability scaling, then check the 21 recipes. Some adaptive forms change the ability’s role; the current card is more useful than a familiar species name.
Do not expect two Focus Sashes to rescue the holder twice: v35 allows one rescue per Pokémon, with extra copies adding stats. Use a Magnet when you want to recover equipment without selling the Pokémon. On mobile, apply item edits with Save.
5. Keep a usable Seal option before rerolling
PvP offers a Seal at 2-1, 3-2 and 4-2. Version 35 gives each pick 15 seconds and one reroll; time running out chooses automatically. Read the board condition first, keep a workable option in mind, then decide whether the reroll is worth it.
Water and Psychic are removed from type Seal offers, while Spare Change and Losing Streak are retired. A position Seal marks the units benefiting from it. Check those markers after moving the board. The Seal guide covers the current offers and conditions.
6. Revisit positions after Flying and Ground changes
Flying’s new Raptor trait grants attack speed and targets the enemy with the lowest HP; melee recipients can dive beside that enemy. Ground’s Sandstorm now weakens enemy defenses and chips HP instead of reducing incoming damage. An older formation built around dodge or Ground damage reduction needs another look.
Inspect which unit will remain exposed when a melee attacker dives, and keep a holder that can take hits. This is an implication of the new rules, not a tested universal placement pattern.
7. Use the checklist for your actual mode
Ranked placement records do not tell you how to beat every Tower boss. From Week 2 onward, weekly Towers have featured collections; read the Tower card’s type icons. In Adventures, check the difficulty ball and Traveler Stars before beginning.
In Campaign, Tower and Adventures, v35 lets you sell items from the bag. That does not establish the same feature in PvP. Use the Tower guide or Adventures guide for their progression, and the comp records only as a dated ranked comparison.
Quick questions
What is the most useful check before refreshing the shop?
Name the upgrade you are looking for: a merge, trait threshold, replacement or a level-dependent field slot. Compare it with the upgrade you can complete now.
How long do I get to pick a Seal?
Version 35 gives 15 seconds and one reroll per pick; if the timer runs out, the game picks automatically.
